When the heavens open and shower us with blessings,
There reveals in the morning sky a masterpiece of magnificent beauty.
Every colour radiating its unique brilliance,
Together forming a splendid work of art.

When the colours mix, there is only one,
A light that reveals all what the eyes can see.
When humanity comes together, there is only one thing the heart can see;
Everyone is human just like you and me.

The Earth Speaks

You built your house and called it your home,

When you traveled around the world, your country was your home,

And when you stepped on the moon…Earth was your home.

For your comfort you cut down trees,

For your fashion you killed the beasts,

For your wealth you dug me deep,

Exploiting the rarest of my possessions.

You are polluting my air, and filling my water with toxins.

Doing me evil for the good I’ve done,

And still; you call me your home?

I needed someone to protect me, and so you were born,

But your knowledge made you greedy,

Where your intelligence did not work.

If you destroy me, where will you live?

Ask your brothers if they have found some place else,

Where my sisters wouldn’t refuse,

What I accept to give you to use.

In reading this I see that there are many people who want to be part of creating a happy world for people, and all life on our planet. The intention of such people is pure and admirable and inspiring. From here the very hard questions must be asked about what the next steps follow to achieve a happy world.

There are many proposed quick fixes to problems- many failing for numerous reasons- solution is too small for the problem, lack of understanding its complexities, solutions imposed from the outside and therefore not locally relevant, etc.

It is our job as passionate people to share skills in analysing what the causes are of issues. To make sure these deeper discussions are occuring to bring together diversity of perspectives. Then what naturally follows this step, is the step towards the solutions- solutions that are locally relevant, empowering and solutions that serve more than just one issue- that is integrated holistic solutions.

So I ask in this forum what are the issues and why are they occuring? This is the first step before investing any resources in action.

R-N’S NEWEST ORGANIZATION-YOUTH4CAUSE

Brand new for the fall semester, new student organization, Youth4Cause hopes to get students involved in the global issue of poverty.

  Begun in early September by freshman and computer science major, Karthik Naralasetty, Youth4Cause invites all undergraduate students ages 18-25 to participate.

   “The club is open to all regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender,” said Naralasetty.

“I hope to get plenty of students involved with world issues. All they do is study and they need to start doing something productive.”

Although contributing to the end of world poverty is the main goal of the organization, Naralasetty plans to discuss and find solutions for other youth related problems.

 

“I want to emphasize the AIDS epidemic. Everyday in Africa 6,300 people die from AIDS, that’s a Indian Ocean Tsunami every two weeks,” he reminds students.

    Naralasetty continued to say that he hopes to visit some patients who suffer from the epidemic in the near future.

“My goal is to make them feel comfortable,” he explained.

He also hopes to conduct seminars on drinking and smoking for the community.

When asked what his inspiration for starting the organization was, Naralasetty replied, “My father directs a series of awareness programs in India. He is my inspiration.”

Naralasetty has also participated in two International Youth Conferences as ambassador for India: One in Australia and one in Canada.
